DR. GRIFFITH TRANSLATES IN GOD’S SCHOOL: FOUNDATIONS FOR A CHRISTIAN LIFE

Dr. Howard Griffith’s translation of In God's School: Foundations for a Christian Life by Dr. Pierre Marcel has been released. Click here to order the book. The publisher says, “In God’s School (A L’ Ecole de Dieu) is foundational Christian instruction. It follows the outline of John Calvin’s Geneva Catechism along with the Heidelberg Catechism.”

Dr. Frank James, professor of historical theology at RTS/Orlando says, “Marcel’s book, In God’s School, is a rich vein of pastoral encouragement (and hitherto untapped resource for English speakers). This little book excavates from the quarry of the Reformation and its deep pastoral theology. Howard Griffith has given us a spiritual gold mine by his masterful translation of this French treasure. Read it, meditate on it, and your soul will glitter with blessing.”

NEW BOOKLET IN SERIES BY DR. MIKE MILTON JUST RELEASED
Continuing the familiar “Basics of the Reformed Faith” series, P&R Publishing announces the release of What is Perseverance of the Saints? by Dr. Mike Milton. The publisher notes: "In pastoral style with concise clarity, Dr. Milton defines the famous 'Fifth Point of Calvinism' and distinguishes it from other theologies (including 'once saved always saved'). What is Perseverance of the Saints? explores difficult, commonly-asked questions such as: Can a believer be given the gift of faith and then lose it? Is it possible for a Christian to fall from grace? What about the passages that urge Christians to stay true to the end? What about the real cases we know—people who sat beside us in the pew one Sunday, but left and rejected Jesus the next? Milton presents four aspects of the doctrine of perseverance: A definition of the doctrine, distortions of the doctrine, a defense from the Word of God, and finally, delight in the doctrine." Click here to purchase the booklet.

ALUMNI SNIPPETS
Our readers love reading about our alumni. Do you have newsworthy information about a change in your ministry or would you like to share updates on your family? Tell us about it for inclusion in our next e-letter. Email here.

Jongho Kim (M.Div. ‘00), formerly one of our “missing” alumni, wrote in to tell us he has been in Korea since 2001 and has been working with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. He is the chief development officer and director of missions. He was ordained in 2000 through ARP. He has three girls, ages 14, 8, and 4. His wife Amy is a full-time homemaker, and as a writer, she was recently recognized by a writers' association. Jongho also does translation work.

Phil and Shanna Davis (M.Div. ‘03) is currently with World Harvest Mission in Prague. They had a third child last year named Piper, who recently celebrated her first birthday. They had also reported they were looking for a new facility due to their growth. They have now moved into a newly renovated train station (pictured right) which has a new state-of-the-art conference room, wired for sound and projection. They notice a few trains going by during each service, but it is not entirely distracting. This space also gives Phil permanent office space two floors up which doubles as children’s church space, Bible study space, etc. It is close to their home for which they are very thankful. Phil notes this space was part of a feeble prayer walk 5 1/2 years ago to prepare for this church. Click here to view the church website and click here to read Phil’s blog.

Dennis Di Mauro (MAR ‘06) will be teaching “Christian Worldviews” in April at Washington Bible College in Washington, D.C. (as part of their degree completion program).

Matt Eusey (M.Div. ‘07) is serving as pastor of spiritual formation at Redeemer Redmond Church, a church plant of the PCA, in Redmond, WA. Matt and his wife Karyn moved to Seattle immediately following his graduation and two months later they had their first child Stephen. Matt was ordained May 18, 2008, by the Presbytery of the Pacific Northwest.

Paul May (M.Div. ’07, MAC ‘07)  has been called as the assistant pastor of Marco Presbyterian Church in Marco Island, FL. The pastor is Rev. Bill Lyle (M.Div. ’90).

Burk Parsons (M.Div. ’04) edited a new book in November titled John Calvin: A Heart for Devotion, Doctrine, & Doxology. The publisher notes, “John Calvin is often reviled as a humorless doctrinarian who preached an austere theology that twisted Scripture. In John Calvin: A Heart for Devotion, Doctrine, and Doxology, Burk Parsons and a cadre of godly pastors and scholars seek to set the record straight in honor of the 500th observance of John Calvin’s birth in 1509. The book’s nineteen succinct chapters explore aspects of Calvin’s life, ministry, and teachings, and establish his importance even for the twenty-first-century church.”

Contributors, in addition to Parsons, include: Derek W. H. Thomas, Sinclair B. Ferguson, D. G. Hart, Harry L. Reeder, Steven J. Lawson, W. Robert Godfrey, Phillip R. Johnson, Eric J. Alexander, Thabiti Anyabwile, John MacArthur, Richard D. Phillips, Thomas K. Ascol, Keith A. Mathison, Jay E. Adams, Philip Graham Ryken, Michael Horton, Jerry Bridges, and Joel R. Beeke.

Wade Singletary (MATS ’05) is currently teaching humanities at Valencia Community College in Orlando. He has contributed to the book East-West Traditions: Ethical and Philosophical Perspectives. The editor notes: “This monograph consists in a collection of eleven different papers that focus on selected aspects of ethics, religion and philosophy considered in the context of both Eastern and Western culture.” Also the editor notes, “The contributors to this monograph have attempted to show how the spiritual, ethical and philosophical wisdom propounded by our ancient forebears still has relevance for people of our own time.”
